If you’ve been wanting to hit the road and explore the East Coast without the hassle of driving, Amtrak has a deal just for you. Until February 8, the railway giant is offering adult tickets for its Auto Train starting at an enticing $35, plus the cost of bringing your car along for the ride.
The deal applies to northbound travel from Sanford, Florida, to Lorton, Virginia, from now through March 14. For those heading south, mark your calendars for travel between February 19 and July 25. Keep in mind, there are blackout dates on northbound travel only from February 28 to March 3, so plan accordingly.
Eliot Hamlisch, Amtrak’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, highlighted the unique experience the Auto Train offers. “The Auto Train transforms the typical I-95 journey into an experience of comfort and convenience,” he said. “The latest fare sale gives customers a sustainable way to travel while enjoying wide, reclining seats with ample legroom, or the extra comfort of a private room.”
For budget-conscious travelers, snagging a coach ticket for just $35 is a steal. If you’re feeling a bit more indulgent, consider splurging on a first-class private Roomette, starting at $235 for single occupancy, or a private bedroom, which kicks off at $435 for single occupancy. Even the little ones get a special rate, with children aged 2 to 12 securing tickets starting at just $17.50.
The perks don’t stop with the ticket prices. Passengers in coach seats can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast before reaching their destination. On the other hand, those opting for a private Roomette or bedroom are treated to priority boarding, a dedicated first-class attendant, and complimentary meals on board.
Amtrak recently revamped its fare structure, streamlining it into two new options: “value” and “flex.” This change aims to provide a more consistent booking experience for customers. In addition to the Auto Train deal, Amtrak has expanded its “Night Owl” fares, offering tickets up and down the Northeast Corridor for as low as $5.
